France is still alive

Share |

The situation was just about to be tragic, but France remembered that they were once World Champions, and got the victory over Togo. The 2-0 win is barely enough to qualify for the round of 16.

The French goals were scored by Patrick Vieira and Thierry Henry, just when the game was in the most critical part for the former European Champions.

Thierry Henry had a good performance, but he missed a couple of chances to score. He played alongside David Trezeguet in a surprising decision from coach Domenech.

We can say that it was a strange 34th birthday for Zinedine Zidane but an enjoyable one in the end, because he will be able to continue in this World Cup.

In fact, this is their first World Cup victory since they stunned Brazil 3-0 in the 1998 final will enable Zidane, who will retire after the tournament and missed this encounter through suspension, to play at least one more match.

Critics over French coach

France is seriosly in danger after their 1-1 draw with South Korea, and everybody is throwing critics on the coach and the team for their performance in the World Cup.

Even Arsenal coach, Arsène Wenger, who has criticised France manager Raymond Domenech over his tactics on deploying Thierry Henry as a lone striker.

In fact, Wenger stated: "I feel sorry for Thierry because he was left isolated as a lone striker and did not get enough help."

"I know that Thierry can play that role and has done it to good effect, but if the squad is not playing well and you do not get service it is impossible."

"I still believe France will go through by beating Togo but they have to find the right team and formation right now."

"They look like a squad which needs confidence and to believe in themselves because they have a lot of quality."
