Arsenal beats Wigan with Henry 's goals

Share |

Arsenal got a great victory over Wigan (3-2) and brought the curtain down on the club’s storming six-game winning streak in the Barclays Premiership. Wigan's record home crowd were treated to a pulsating first half in which a classy Arsenal raced into a 2-0 lead after 21 minutes with goals from Robin Van Persie and Thierry Henry.

Henri Camara gave second-placed Wigan a lifeline after 28 minutes only for Henry to restore Arsenal's two-goal cushion with a delicious free kick past Wigan goalkeeper John Filan.

Wigan, who have enjoyed a superb start to their first season in the top flight, hit back again on the stroke of halftime when Jimmy Bullard turned Sol Campbell to shoot past Jens Lehmann.

Arsenal survived some nervy moments in the second half as Wigan pressed for an equaliser, but hung on for their first away victory of the season.

Henry's future may not be in Arsenal

Share |

Arsenal captain Thierry Henry hasn't signed a new contract with the club yet, and there is the possibility that he moves to another club abroad. The french striker became Arsenal's all-time leading goalscorer when he returned from injury in the win over Sparta Prague in October and his record currently stands at 189.

Despite his feelings for Arsenal, Thierry has not signed his new contract with his current deal set to run out in summer 2007 and he has constantly side-stepped questions about his future.

Henry has been linked in the past with Spanish giants Real Madrid although recent speculation has connected him with Primera Liga champions Barcelona.
